YOUNG BUCKS AND OLD COWS Thursday 2nd February 2012
|
YOUNG BUCKS AND OLD COWS is a one off stand up comedy night. The name is appropriate because most of the acts are young bucks. A couple of the acts are old cows. That said, it's a very exciting line up: Caroline Jones from Delete The Banjax is doing her first ever stand up gig. World exclusive!. Matthew Steer from Britain's Best Mates and Broken Biscuits is doing his first ever gig. Bang! Pat Cahill Winner of the Amused Moose Laugh-Off 2011 and Cavendish Arms New Act 2011 and a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Award 2011, Up the Creek One to Watch and Latitude New Act of the Year 2011. He will be doing brand new stuff. World exclusive! Thomas Nelstrop will be trying out new stuff that will be part of his Edinburgh show. There may well be music involved. Nice. James Allnutt from Allnutt and Simpson doing some stand up. A treat! Joe Davies is doing a brand new set. He was brilliant last time he did the Wilmington. And Spencer Jones doesn't have a clue what he is doing yet. Doors open at 730, Its free to get in and it's gonna be proper good. See you there!

2012 MUSICAL COMEDY AWARDS QUARTER-FINAL ONE WITH JAMES SHERWOOD Saturday 11th February 2012

The Musical Comedy Awards is back! Now in it's fourth year, the MCA has grown in stature to become an annual fixture in the comedy calendar and the best place to see the UK's finest up and coming musical comedians alongside some of the best established acts of the genre on the circuit. Over the years the MCA have provided a launch pad to superstar acts like Frisky and Mannish (2009 Finalists), Abandoman (2010 winners) and Jay Foreman (Best Newcomer 2009 and now touring with Dave Gorman) and created a thriving independent platform to celebrate the artform that is musical comedy. The competition has also played host to stars of the genre such as Mitch Benn, David O' Doherty, Bo Burnham and many more.
So here come the Quarter-Finals! The top 40 musical comedy acts selected from musicalcomedyawards.com have taken part in the first round heats and we are now left with the top 24, who will battle it out through to the Semi-Finals and then the Final at the Bloomsbury Theatre on April 7th. Judges for this year's competition include Mark Boosey of British Comedy Guide, Tim Clark of Such Small Portions, Rupert Majendie of BBC Comedy, Lynne Parker of Funny Women, Kenny Cavey of Com Comedy and Jon Grant and Paul Weedon of Red 24 Management. Both the judges and the audience vote for their favourite three acts to progress through to the Semi-Finals. We welcome back WeGotTickets as the sponsors of our Best Newcomer Category and are delighted to have them as our exclusive online vendor for all MCA shows.

A welcome return for Which Way Is Up! favourites Bordeauxxx. A band that deliver bright and brash guitar pop with more hooks that a fisher mans tackle. Or something. Either way, this lot, are good. If you missed them last time around you really shouldn't make the same mistake twice.
★ Young Romance ★
http://www.facebook.com/YoungRomanceMusic?sk=app_178091127385
Paolo and Claire are Young Romance. They write about love and doubt and dislocation, wrapping up their words in a layer of fuzz and distortion.
They are inseparable. They live together, write together, finish each other’s sentences and second-guess what the other’s going to say next. Sweet, charming, funny, and entirely self contained, they can bicker and joke with each other for hours on end, splendidly isolated as the world rushes on all about them.
They also make bloody captivating pop music.
★ Colour Me Wednesday ★
http://www.colourmewednesday.com/
Having recently discovered Colour Me Wednesday I am super excited to have them play a show for Which Way Is Up! These pop sensations have some cracking songs including the (soon to be) indiepop anthem 'Purge Your Inner Tory'.
★ The Ritas ★
http://theritas.co.uk/
The Ritas are geeky fangirls. They are the girls who stand at the front. They are the girls who try to find the stage door. With a sold out EP on Dufflecoat Records we are sure that you are going to fall head over heals for The Ritas. Buzzy girls with guitars - what's not to love?

TRISTRAN MACKAY ALBUM LAUNCH Wednesday 22nd February 2012
|
Tristan Mackay, Album Launch (Full band) on stage 9.00pm
Matt Belmont, on stage 8.00pm
Doors, 7.30pm
£5 in advance
The 22nd February sees the long awaited launch of Tristan Mackay’s debut album ‘Out Along the Wire’ released on his own label Battered Hat Records on 20 February. Already picking up plays on Radio 2! The night will feature Tristan with his full band and support from Matt Belmont!
Tristan Mackay first picked up a guitar at the age of 14 after hearing the Eric Clapton ‘Unplugged’ album. This started his lifelong love for blues guitar music and the storytelling songs of Dylan, Young and Springsteen.
In 2001 he moved to Yorkshire to study at Leeds University. During his student days he would busk to pay the bills and it was to this pursuit he returned after university to promote his music. In 2010, Tristan was discovered on myspace by Grammy award winning producer Martin Levan (John Martyn, Andrew Lloyd Webber) who invited him to his studio to lay down demos.
Later that year they embarked on a collaboration to produce Tristan’s debut album ‘Out Along the Wire’. With a team of outstanding musicians, including Pete Van Hooke (Mike and the Mechanics, Van Morrision) and friend John Garden (Scissor Sisters) as well as a cameo organ performance from Paul Carrack, the album of all original tracks is due for release in Feb 2012.
